Suppliers Urged to Share Insights in GCA’s Biennial Survey
The Groceries Code Adjudicator (GCA) has launched its 2026 survey, inviting suppliers to provide feedback on their experiences with the 14 designated retailers. Open until 22 February, this annual survey aims to enhance understanding of retailer-supplier dynamics and ensure fair practices within the grocery sector.
Purpose of the Survey
The GCA is keen to gather confidential insights from suppliers to assess how designated retailers are treating them, with the goal of promoting compliance with the Groceries Supply Code of Practice (GSCOP). Mark White, the GCA, has highlighted the importance of supplier feedback in shaping future actions against any unfair practices.
Insights from Previous Survey
The results of the previous survey conducted in 2025 indicated a trend towards improved treatment of suppliers. According to the findings, the percentage of suppliers reporting issues related to the Code decreased from 33% in 2024 to 30% in 2025. Additionally, over 90% of suppliers working with 13 retailers noted that their partners adhered to the Code, suggesting a significant positive shift in compliance. Key areas of progress identified included reductions in payment delays and better management of invoice discrepancies.
The Adjudicator’s Call to Action
Mark White expressed his desire to hear from suppliers directly, stating, “The annual survey is your chance to tell me in confidence how the retailers are behaving. I want to hear from you.” He reassured suppliers that the GCA would act on highlighted issues to promote fair treatment within the sector.
Looking Ahead
The current survey will remain open for six weeks, concluding on 22 February 2026. The GCA plans to publish the survey results in spring 2026. Following the release of the survey findings, YouGov is expected to conduct interviews with selected respondents to delve deeper into their experiences. The insights collected will be shared during the GCA’s annual conference later that year.
Background
The GCA was established to oversee retailer compliance with the GSCOP, ensuring that suppliers are treated fairly and fostering a more equitable grocery sector in the UK. The ongoing survey process is crucial for monitoring improvements and setting future priorities, thereby enhancing the integrity of the food supply chain.
