Three New Members Appointed to the Export Guarantees Advisory Council

Tracey McDermott: A Leader in Financial Regulation
With more than thirty years in the industry, Tracey McDermott has a background steeped in financial services and sustainability. She previously held the role of Group Head at Standard Chartered Bank, where she undertook a global overhaul of compliance processes and championed initiatives aimed at achieving net-zero emissions and promoting socio-economic mobility. Her earlier experience includes a tenure at the Financial Conduct Authority, where she served as Acting Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director for Enforcement and Financial Crime.
McDermott expressed her enthusiasm for joining the council, stating that the government has a vigorous trade agenda and that the advisory body is essential in guiding ministers towards its realisation.
Dr Alex O’Cinneide: A Champion for Renewable Energy
Dr Alex O’Cinneide, the CEO and founder of Gore Street Capital, has extensive experience in global finance, particularly in renewable energy investments. His career spans more than two decades and includes leadership roles at firms such as Paladin Capital and Masdar Capital. O’Cinneide’s commitment to sustainable development is evident through his advisory roles with UNICEF and his position on the supervisory board of the UK Energy Research Centre.
Upon taking up his new position, O’Cinneide highlighted the importance of the council’s work in supporting the government’s ambitious trade initiatives, conveying his eagerness to enhance trade finance for UK exporters.
Jon Samuel: Expertise in Sustainability
Jon Samuel is a notable figure in sustainability, having dedicated over thirty years to advancing practices in mining, infrastructure, and environmental sectors. He has held senior positions at prestigious organisations like Anglo American and De Beers, where he was instrumental in implementing sustainability strategies. His involvement extends to shaping global sustainability standards as Co-Chair of the Initiative for Responsible Mining Assurance and as a representative to the International Council on Mining and Metals.
Samuel described his appointment as a privilege, noting the council’s critical role in crafting policies that support British businesses amidst the government’s ambitious trade objectives.
