Two Albanian Burglars Sentenced for Series of Break-ins
Denis Puka, 28, and Erisjan Laska, 29, have been sentenced to 56 months in prison after being found guilty of burglarising multiple properties, including the home of a professional footballer. The two men, along with an unidentified accomplice, executed a series of well-coordinated break-ins across Cheshire last year.
Details of the Burglary Operation
The trio’s plan was described as “sophisticated and well-planned” by Judge Steven Everett. They rented an Airbnb in Warrington, which served as a launch point for their criminal activities. Using a Seat Leon car adorned with three false registration plates, the group targeted various homes from June 5 to June 7.
Among their victims was Scott Hogan, a former player for Aston Villa and Brentford, who currently plays for MK Dons. Hogan was alerted to the attempted break-in when he spotted torchlight shining into his bedroom at approximately 11:30 pm on June 7. At the time, his wife, who was pregnant, and their young daughter were also inside the property.
Impact on Victims
Prosecutor Nardeen Nemat revealed that the burglars breached the property by climbing over a fence and scaling the trellis to reach Hogan’s window. When Hogan noticed them, he quickly pursued the intruders, but they managed to flee the scene. Despite the attempted burglary, nothing was stolen from Hogan’s residence. However, the incident has left a lasting emotional toll, with Hogan stating it has caused “sleepless nights full of stress and anxiety.” He subsequently enhanced his home’s security measures to safeguard his family.
Prior to targeting Hogan’s home, the group had already attempted thefts at two properties on June 5. They entered one residence, ransacking every room except for the bedroom where the occupants were sleeping, but did not make off with any valuables. The following night, the gang made another failed attempt in Grappenhall and Knutsford but succeeded in breaking into a mansion in Northwich while the owners were on holiday, stealing luxury watches worth approximately £9,000.
Arrest and Sentencing
The two men were eventually apprehended when their vehicle was recovered from a housing estate in Warrington more than a week later. Inside the car, authorities discovered several incriminating items, including mobile phones, the stolen items, and tools associated with their burglaries.
Upon sentencing the defendants, Judge Everett underscored the significant disruption caused by their “selfish and despicable acts,” highlighting the emotional and psychological consequences for their victims.
