British Backpacker Sentenced for Fatal E-Scooter Collision
A 25-year-old British backpacker has been sentenced to four years in prison following a tragic accident involving an electric scooter in Perth, Australia, which resulted in the death of a father-of-two. Alicia Kemp, hailing from Redditch, Worcestershire, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death while intoxicated.

Kemp appeared at Perth District Court on Friday, where Judge Wendy Hughes delivered the sentence, backdated to June 2025 for time already served. The judge stipulated a non-parole period of two years, meaning Kemp could be eligible for release around mid-2027. Additionally, her driver’s licence has been revoked for a period of two years.
On 31 May, Kemp was found to be over the legal blood alcohol limit when her scooter collided with 51-year-old Thanh Phan, who later died in hospital due to a brain injury. Kemp and a passenger on the scooter sustained minor injuries in the incident.
