Tragic Boxing Day Blaze Claims Lives of Three Family Members
Over £250,000 has been raised to support a Gloucestershire police officer following a devastating house fire that took the lives of his wife and children on Boxing Day. Fionnghuala Shearman and her two young children, Eve, aged seven, and four-year-old Ohner, perished in the incident at their home in Brimscombe, near Stroud.
Details of the Incident
Emergency services responded to a call at approximately 3am on Boxing Day to a fire at the family’s mid-terrace Cotswold stone cottage. Tragically, it is reported that Tom Shearman, a constable with Gloucestershire Police, attempted to rescue his family by breaking through a bathroom window. However, he was unable to return inside due to the intensity of the flames.
Mr. Shearman was taken to hospital for treatment but has since been discharged. Meanwhile, the local community has shown remarkable support, culminating in a GoFundMe campaign which has raised over £257,000 from more than 12,400 donors, surpassing its initial goal of £110,000 and setting a new target of £350,000.
Ongoing Investigations
Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire, which is believed to have originated on the ground floor. While significant damage occurred, including the destruction of the roof and the majority of the interior, the investigation has thus far ruled out any suspicious circumstances surrounding the blaze.
Temporary chief constable Maggie Blyth announced that the bodies of the children and the family dog have been recovered, alongside the earlier recovery of Mrs. Shearman’s body.
