All 55 individuals aboard a passenger aircraft were safely evacuated following an emergency landing in Somalia, where the plane overshot the runway and landed in shallow waters. Remarkably, no injuries were reported during the incident, which occurred near Mogadishu’s main airport on Tuesday.

The aircraft, operated by Starsky Aviation, had departed from Aden Abdulle International Airport and was en route to Gaalkacyo in the north when it encountered technical difficulties approximately 15 minutes after takeoff. The pilot decided to return to Mogadishu but unfortunately overshot the runway, ultimately coming to a stop at the shoreline of the Indian Ocean.
All passengers, comprising 50 civilians and five crew members, were safely evacuated from the Fokker 50 aircraft. Transportation Minister Mohamed Farah Nuh confirmed that rescue teams ensured everyone was accounted for following the incident.

The aircraft sustained damage during the incident, with reports indicating at least one wing was broken but the fuselage remained largely intact. Starsky Aviation’s chief executive, Ahmed Nur, confirmed the aircraft ran off the runway before resting on the beach. An investigation into the cause of the runway overrun is set to commence.

The Somali Civil Aviation Authority issued a statement at 1.17 pm local time (10.17 am UK time), noting the involvement of the Fokker 50 with registration 60-YAS in the runway overrun. They emphasized that all occupants were unharmed and had been transferred to a local hospital for precautionary medical assessments.
Minister Nuh reaffirmed that there were “no fatalities reported,” ensuring that emergency services had acted swiftly in their response to the situation.
