Deadline Approaching for Business Rates Valuation Adjustments
Business owners in the UK who believe their property’s current valuation is inaccurate are urged to register for a business rates valuation account. The deadline to submit requests for alterations is 31 March, ahead of a new rating list set to come into effect on 1 April.
Impact of Revaluation
The Valuation Office Agency (VOA) has conducted updates to the rateable values for all non-domestic properties in England and Wales through a process known as revaluation. This initiative occurs every three years to better align property values with fluctuations in the market.
Following the new valuations, any requests for changes will only pertain to the updated rates. Property owners should take note that adjustments to the 2023 valuation could lead to increases or decreases in their rateable value, potentially influencing future assessments.
How to Request Changes
To initiate a request for alterations to a property’s current valuation, owners must log into their business rates valuation account. Those without an existing account are advised to register promptly, as the verification process can take up to 15 working days.
Account Management
Accessing the account requires either a Government Gateway user ID and password or a One Login account. Individuals who have not used their Government Gateway user ID in the past three years may need to create a new account due to security measures, which also necessitates reclaiming their property and could add another 15 working days to the timeline.

Looking Ahead
As part of ongoing government restructuring, by 1 April 2026, the Valuation Office Agency will merge with HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). However, officials assure that this transition will not impact current or future cases, nor will it change how users access their valuation accounts.
