Opportunities for Taiwanese Youth to Live and Work in the UK in 2026
The UK Government has announced that there will be 1,000 places available for young people from Taiwan to participate in the Youth Mobility Scheme in 2026. An initial ballot will allocate 800 positions in February, followed by a second ballot in the summer for the remaining 200 spots.
Application Process for the Ballot
Young Taiwanese interested in applying must send an email to TaiwanYMS@homeoffice.gov.uk between 00:01 on February 10 and 00:01 on February 12, 2026 (Taiwan time). Each applicant is permitted to submit one email only, as multiple submissions will not be considered.
The subject line of the email needs to include the applicant’s name, date of birth (in DD/MM/YYYY format), and passport number. It is imperative that all submissions be written in English.
For example: WU Janice – 31/03/2000 – Passport123456789
The body of the email should contain:
- Name
- Date of birth
- Passport Number
- Mobile phone number
A confirmation email will be sent to applicants within 48 hours of their submission, urging them to check both inbox and junk folders for communication.
Ballot Outcomes and Next Steps
The allocation of the 800 places will be conducted randomly by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI). Successful candidates will receive a follow-up email by February 27, 2026, that includes acceptance confirmation and further instructions for visa application.
To proceed, successful applicants must complete the online Youth Mobility Scheme application and attend a biometrics appointment at a Visa Application Centre by May 28, 2026. All necessary documentation must be provided, which can be verified through the UK Visas and Immigration website.
Eligibility and Future Applications
Young people from Taiwan residing abroad can also participate in the scheme using the above instructions from their country of residence. However, applications cannot be submitted while in the UK.
If an applicant is not selected in the ballot, they will be notified via email within two weeks. It is crucial to note that the results of the ballot are confirmed as final and appeals are not permitted. However, individuals can enter future ballots if they continue to meet eligibility criteria.
Why This Scheme Matters
The Youth Mobility Scheme fosters cultural exchange and allows young individuals to immerse themselves in UK society, contributing to the long-standing relationship between Taiwan and the United Kingdom. Such initiatives not only benefit the participants but also enhance ties between nations, paving the way for further collaboration in various sectors.
