Nathan Gill Sentenced to Over 10 Years for Accepting Russian Bribes
Nathan Gill, the former leader of Reform UK in Wales, has been sentenced to ten-and-a-half years in prison after admitting to accepting bribes for pro-Russian speeches and interviews. During his tenure as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP), Gill received approximately £40,000 for assisting pro-Russian individuals in Ukraine, including a figure described by U.S. authorities as a “pawn” of Russian secret services.

During proceedings at the Old Bailey, Judge Mrs Justice Cheema-Grubb condemned Gill’s actions for undermining public confidence in democracy. The court heard that he accepted funds from Oleg Voloshyn, who acted on behalf of well-known figures within the Russian political landscape, including Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian oligarch Viktor Medvedchuk.
Bribery Details
Gill’s bribery offenses took place while he served as an MEP from 2014 to 2020, initially under UKIP and later under the Brexit Party. He pleaded guilty to eight charges of bribery earlier this year and was implicated in efforts to promote pro-Russian content on Ukrainian television channels facing government censorship.
In the period between late 2018 and early 2019, he appeared on 112 Ukraine — one of the channels linked to Medvedchuk — and was allegedly paid to advocate for its continued broadcasting in the European Parliament.

Cdr Dominic Murphy, head of the Metropolitan Police’s counter-terrorism division, stated that Gill participated “extraordinarily willingly” in the bribery, marking his conduct as a significant threat to national security. The investigation into Gill is part of a broader effort to uncover Russia’s attempts to influence political figures and events across Europe.
Ongoing Investigations
The Metropolitan Police have indicated that their investigations may extend to other individuals who may have been involved in similar offenses. Investigators became aware of Gill’s activities after receiving intelligence from various sources, including the FBI, which identified him through messages found on Voloshyn’s phone during a trip to the United States.
Authorities detained Gill at Manchester Airport as he attempted to leave for Russia, and upon searching his possessions, officers found substantial cash linked to the bribes he accepted for his political endorsements.

Reform UK’s current leadership expressed shock and dismay at Gill’s actions, stating they were unaware of his misconduct. The investigation did not reveal any direct links to prominent party figures like Nigel Farage.
