Lord Rennard’s Defence
In defence of his position, Lord Rennard referenced earlier inquiries by the Metropolitan Police and an independent investigation led by Alistair Webster, both of which, according to him, found insufficient evidence to warrant any disciplinary action. He claimed that the initial police investigation was thorough and noted that the independent lawyer’s report did not describe the evidence as “credible.” Rennard maintained that the 2014 party decision validated his position, ending any disciplinary proceedings against him.
