Met Police Under Scrutiny Following Culture Review
The London Assembly is set to convene on Wednesday, 11 February 2026, to evaluate the Metropolitan Police’s progress in implementing necessary cultural reforms after the damning findings of the Casey Review. Key figures from the Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime (MOPAC) will address the assembly regarding the steps taken towards instilling essential changes within the Met.
Findings of the Casey Review
Published in March 2023, Baroness Casey’s independent assessment was highly critical of the Metropolitan Police, labelling it as institutionally racist, sexist, and homophobic. The report underscored the urgent need for radical changes to rebuild public trust and enhance the legitimacy of the police force.
Independent Assessment of Progress
In response to the Casey Review, Dr Gillian Fairfield has been appointed to conduct an independent evaluation of the Met’s advancements since the initial findings. This appointment, announced in December, signifies the Met and the Mayor’s commitment to addressing the cultural issues highlighted in the Casey Review.
Upcoming Committee Meeting
The London Assembly Police and Crime Committee will gather to question key MOPAC representatives on the strategies in place for overseeing the cultural transformation within the Metropolitan Police. The meeting aims to clarify how MOPAC collaborates with the Met and the London Policing Board to facilitate these critical changes.
Who Will Attend
Notable attendees for the meeting include:
- Kaya Comer-Schwartz, Deputy Mayor for Policing and Crime
- Caroline Tredwell, Head of Oversight Governance at MOPAC
- Kenny Bowie, Head of Strategy and MPS Oversight at MOPAC
Accessing the Meeting
The event is scheduled to start at 10am in the Chamber at City Hall, located at Kamal Chunchie Way, E16 1ZE. Members of the media and the public are encouraged to attend, with options available to view the meeting live via webcast or later on YouTube.
