Russian Drone Strike Claims 15 Lives in Dnipro
A drone strike carried out by Russian forces in Dnipro, Ukraine, has resulted in the deaths of at least 15 individuals, as confirmed by local emergency services. The attack targeted a bus transporting mineworkers, leaving an additional seven people injured as the violence in the region escalates.

The assault occurred in the southeastern city of Dnipro, where the bus was returning from a shift at a nearby mine. Following the drone strike, a fire erupted but was promptly extinguished by firefighters on the scene. Ukrainian energy company DTEK labeled the incident a “massive terrorist attack,” noting that all victims were employees of the company.
Denys Shmyhal, Ukraine’s energy minister, condemned the strike, describing it as a targeted and cynical act against energy sector workers in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
Further Hostilities and Casualties
This incident comes on the heels of a larger overnight offensive by Russia, which launched 90 attack drones, with 14 of them successfully hitting various locations across Ukraine. In addition to the fatalities from the bus strike, the regional governor, Oleksandr Hanzha, reported that a woman and a man were killed in separate drone assaults.
The violence continued as Russian shelling impacted central Kherson, seriously injuring a 59-year-old woman. A drone also struck a maternity hospital in Zaporizhzhia, injuring three women and causing a fire that was later controlled.
Russian Claims of Military Action
In a statement, Russia’s defence ministry claimed responsibility for using various military assets—including operational-tactical aviation and artillery—to target transportation infrastructures utilized by Ukrainian forces. They also reported downing 21 Ukrainian drones over southwestern and western Russia, without disclosing any casualties or damage on their side.
Upcoming Peace Talks
In the backdrop of ongoing military actions, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that peace talks between Moscow and Kyiv are set to take place on February 4 and 5 in Abu Dhabi. Envoys from Ukraine, Russia, and the United States are expected to gather with the aim of progressing towards a resolution of the conflict. Zelenskyy expressed Ukraine’s readiness for substantive discussions to achieve a dignified end to hostilities.
